I’ll be working with artist Erin McCullough (below), who has Downs Syndrome, on a large and permanent mosaic mural at The Jeffrey Foundation for early childhood development of special needs children.

We have a couple days left for our campaign to raise money for this project. Please consider donating to this endeavor at:

As of today, we have raised close to $2000, but our goal is $4,000.

We are also looking for donations of supplies. This includes glass, tiles, mosaic supplies in general, mirror glass, marbles, beads and anything else we can lay down and make a mosaic out of!

Art on TV show “2 Broke Girls” and Shoutout from Chabad Online Live (COLlive.com)

COLlive.com picked up my artwork being on the television show “2 Broke Girls” and wrote about it here.

OH YEAH! Didn’t post about it here (it’s very hard to keep track of this website as well as all the social networking sites!), But – Thanks to “2 Broke Girls” set decorator, Amy Feldman, who visited our art exhibit back in Dec, Rivka and I had artwork on the TV show! One of my handmade prints, “Tracht Gut (Think Good)”, got exceptionally well featured (see photo below).

Always glad to have work out in the open – especially when it’s such a good concept. What can I say? I’m a Lubavitcher at heart. Plus it’s so nice to hear when people enjoy my work or think it’s interesting enough to talk about.

21st Century Judy Chicago (or: How I learned to love dry ice and road flares)

Maybe I’ll write more about this later, but for now I’ll just tell you that sometimes all you need to do is answer a call for help and you could be well on to one of the more amazing experiences of your life so far.

I’m talking about answering the call for volunteers by Silverlake based Materials and Applications, to participate in a re-envisioning of Judy Chicago’s 1968 performance installation “Disappearing Environments” to kick off the performance art series of Pacific Standard Time.

Panelshop is open for the month at Monte Vista Projects, and I’ve got a new BAND!

My new band is called “The Panels”. We are an art performance band concept created by Panelist Peggy Jo Pabustan to promote Panelshop through music ‘jingles’ about the project. Guitar and lyrics by Panelist Peggy Jo Pabustan, vocals by Panelist Ashira Siegel, with drums by the amazing Kimberly Shin. This is us performing at Monte Vista Projects and below that are some images of the CD covers I made for our first very limited edition of CD’s. And below that is the press release for our opening at Monte Vista Projects.

Monte Vista Projects is pleased to present Andrea Zittel’s latest enterprise, ‘Panelshop’, an artist collective making products for an ongoing series of “pop-up” experiments in galleries, stores, and non-profit venues across North America. The Panelshop project succeeds Smockshop, a similar endeavor in which artists produced more than 300 simple garments, as reinterpretations of Zittel’s original design. The new collection begins with a simple dictate to create a rectangular product or “panel” which each artist then interprets according to his or her own skills, interests and special talents. Having precedents in Zittel’s “A-Z Personal Panel Uniforms” and “A-Z Carpet Furniture” and “A-Z Purity Privacy Panels”, the Panelist’s are encouraged to explore a variety of functions with the rectangular form. They design a range of products including garments, furniture, accessories, and stationery which have the capacity to contract and expand, morphing from a single surface to fully functional objects. As a testament to Zittel’s governing principle that “rules make us more creative” each object conforms to a basic rectangular shape, yet manifests in an infinite array of colours, texture, materials and functions. The project explores the intersections of function and fashion, design and life, commerce and art, limitation and freedom.

Zittel’s work is internationally recognized, exploring all aspects of day-to-day living. Clothing, food, and furniture all become the sites of investigation in an ongoing endeavor to better understand human nature and the social construction of needs. The Panelshop is a continuation of the artist’s long-standing aesthetic investigation into the daily routines and functional experiences of everyday life. Designed to be a profit-making enterprise with social awareness, the Panelshop also generates income for non-commercial artists who are not yet self-sustaining and is comprised of artists from Los Angeles, Chicago, New York, Berlin, and South Portland, with various creative backgrounds.

Panelshop debuted at the Portland Museum of Art under it’s original name, Group Formerly Known as Smockshop in September, 2010 and has since exhibited at the Pacific Design Center in the Design Loves Art program, Los Angeles; Amy and Wendy Yao’s Swapmeet, Yucca Valley; and Mt Fuji General Store Pop-Up shop at the Ace Hotel, Palm Springs.

Artist Andrea Zittel trained at San Diego State University and Rhode Island School of Design. Recent solo exhibitions include Galleria Massimo De Carlo, Milan, Italy; Sadie Coles HQ, London, England; Regen Projects, Los Angeles; New Museum of Contemporary Art, New York; Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; the Whitney Museum of American Art at Altria, New York; and Schaulager, Basel.

Inspired by my awesome seamstress friend Laura McMillian, I made a batch of reflectively silkscreened, fabric, neon feathers. I’ve been giving them out very sparingly, and selling them a bit, but they’re not quite ready…. dunno how many I’ll make.. thinking about an installation again….
